Looking for an accessible and enjoyable fantasy novel or series to sink my teeth into that's NOT Sanderson (i.e., Mistborn, Stormlight, etc.). I'm specifically calling him out only because I often see him recommended for "beginner" or "accessible" fantasy. I've tried Mistborn and didn't connect with it, and I've tried Stormlight and – though enjoyable – want to try others, too. I'd also prefer to steer clear of any YA recommendations, not because I don't think they're worthy but, chances are, I've already read them. Trying to get my feet wet in the more epic fantasies out there.
I've already read the following (either the first book in the series or the entire series it belongs to altogether):
- The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
- The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
- The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie
- The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
I like certain tropes, such as a magic school (Harry Potter, The Name of the Wind, etc.), but am open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance!
