My mom asked me to recommend her some historical fiction, and I came up empty. I read almost every genre but historical fiction. So. Can you help my mom out?
Her favorite authors include:
- Barbara Kingsolver
- Jean M. Auel
- John Steinbeck
- Atul Gawande
She's a retired computer programmer and vehement feminist, so I know she loved Hidden Figures and hated Lessons in Chemistry. Can anyone think of books she might enjoy?

“The Island of Sea Women” by Lisa See comes immediately to mind. It’s historical fiction, set in Korea during the Japanese rule, and follows the story of two women and their friendship. I found it quite touching and I also learned a lot about the time period.
