Lately, I've been frustrated with repetitive tropes in a lot of today's fantasy romance. Characters often feel flat, writing seems juvenile, and relationships develop too quickly, losing depth. I'm looking for a book or series that has a richly developed world, a engaging plot, a protagonist that has character, and a romance that’s slow-burn yet meaningful. I'd love to hear some of your recommendations!
Book series that I've read and loved are: The Nevernight Chronicle, Maria Snyder's series, Kristin Cashore's Graceling, Mistborn, The Gentleman Bastard Series, All of T. Kingfisher, Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone, Kushiel's Dart, I enjoyed Mask of Mirrors by M.A. Carrick.
Book series that I couldn't get into: ACOTR, Daughters of No Worlds, Fourth Wing, Heartless Hunter, Anything with multiple POV, Urban Fantasy.
I've heard good things about Grace Draven.
