(Repost from r/booksuggestions because I do really want suggestions.)
It’s that I have an issue with white conservative men, I just don’t always want to be fed their literature when reading sci-fi. I really liked the cyberpunk 2077, mass effect and shadowrun games, but was hoping to look for a book that’s like these but an alternate perspective than the usual sci-fi writer.
I’m currently about to finish the locked tomb series which I like a lot for its uniqueness. the queer aspects are a BIG refresher from the usual heterosexual ones as well, so I’m open to queer, POC, or female protagonist books.
For example If you’ve seen the movie the Fifth Element (which I love, despite myself), the born sexy trope… really annoys me and I’m just a little tired of badly aged tropes in sci-fi.
I’d really appreciate the recommendations! I’m excited to look for something new to read! Thank you!

The Vorkosigan Saga Lois McMaster Bujold,
If you want to try a very dense series with some very big ideas about society and gender roles, have a look at the “Terra Ignota” quartet by Ada Palmer. It’s definitely a bit of a slow burn but it picks up a lot of steam as it goes and the final book, *Perhaps the Stars*, was pretty much my favorite thing the year I read it. (The books aren’t cyberpunk per se but some of the factions involved are at least cyberpunk-adjacent.)

I haven’t played the games you mentioned but it seems you’re looking for more action oriented sci-fi? Here’s my best shot:
– *Iron Widow* by Xiran Jay Xhao (female protagonist, queer/polyamorous)
– *The Jinn-bot of Shantiport* by Samit Basu
– *Chilling Effect* by Valerie Valdes
– *Ocean’s Godori* by Elaine U. Cho
– The Murderbot Diaries (series by Martha Wells)
– *The Archive Undying* by Emma Mieko Candon (queer M/M)
