I’m pretty sure there’s a Jack Reacher book by Lee Child with that (the main character travels all over the USA for such things), but as there’s quite a few of them, and I read them all until after his brother took over the series, I can’t pick out the title.

I read one a long time ago that was *supposed* to be really funny called Louisiana Longshot. I don’t remember much about it other than I was really excited to finish it because it was incredibly not funny and painful to read.
