Hi all. I’m looking for either a Chinese or Japanese myth in which the main character(s) follow the steps to the Hero’s Journey. I wanted to teach parts of “Journey to the West” with my 10th grade Honors English students but fear the amount of background knowledge needed would be too off-putting. I don’t mind teaching excerpts so, if anyone knows of a few chapters in “Journey to the West” are high-interest and easier to understand, or familiar with excerpts from a different myth/novel please let me know!
