I know the question may come off as very naive, but I only recently began branching out to more adult and somewhat “sophisticated” novels. Besides the mandatory classics in high school, I’ve mostly only read YA and romance. Recently I’ve gotten into literary fiction, authors such as Sylvia Plath and Kazuo Ishiguro. I’ve tried out some classics out of my own will as well, and some were great (Metamorphosis, Wuthering Heights, The Bell Jar), but others made me feel as if I don’t have the intellect nor, frankly, the attention span to truly appreciate.
I really want to read Piranesi by Susanna Clarke because the premise seems so intriguing. And don’t get me wrong, I’m fine with being intellectually challenged, but I also don’t want to feel like a failure for giving up on it halfway through if I don’t end up getting anything out of it.
This probably all sounds very pathetic, but I am genuinely curious to know what everyone thought of the book in terms of difficulty.
