I decided that next year I want to get into reading books as a hobby and wanting to start to break down writings to become a better one myself, so I want to get a bit of planning in before it. I obsess with the fantasy genre and actively trying to leave my love for Harry Potter behind me.

I’m looking for books that have a happy ending and typically with the main characters still alive, I don’t mind at all the pains and struggles and abuse as long as its a happy ending. Bonus points if all of that gets addressed and they get support to a healthy recovery.
I typically like Young Adult protagonists but thats mostly due to the only cast of protagonists I’ve been exposed to so feel free to break this mold for me, I’d love to broaden my horizons and have new ideas for what a protagonist can be.
I’m a sucker for Found Families and them supporting one another (even more so if they have a tragic backstory and learns to connect with others despite of it), I’m not sure if that screams I read fanfiction or not but that is something I do adore haha.
Couples can be of any type; female/male, male/male, female/female, or even no couples.
Also I dont mind the ages for the books, is it a picture book with a nice story or a thick novel? Suggest them all.
I sadly can only read english
I’m not a fan of sexual content however if a good story has sex throughout it I’ll still read, but if the book is focused more on the sex and is set in a fantasy world then I’ll probably drop it.

I also love the found family trope, here are my suggestions of fantasy books which all do that in different ways:
A really good series that can get you flying through some short books is the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire – all different fantasy settings (except the first book, which is just an intro to the concept and my least favourite though still decent).
If you want something more traditional fantasy and an adult series to broaden your horizons, I absolutely love the Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb (possibly my favourite books of all time, so far). It’s got strong world building, a very memorable main character, and a fun magic system. And if you end up liking it, it’s the first trilogy in a “series of series” (16 books in all I believe). Though for this one, I guess it depends on exactly how happy your happy ending needs to be because it definitely isn’t a sunshine book.
For a proper YA series, the Raven Boys is pretty good. I’d say the later books are better than the earlier ones, and overall it was one of my favourite YA series.
And if you want a stand-alone that is 100% cheesy found-family low-fantasy, and just a very feel good story, The House on the Cerulean Sea is for you.
Hope some of these are your type!
