I'm friends with a very avid reader who devours books way out of my own reading level, so I'm on the sub trying to look for help on what to get him for his birthday gift. A bullet list of information on his likes and dislikes:
- As stated in the title, his favorite genre is fantasy/sci-fi. He has already devoured through Tolkien, Brandon Sanderson, Isaac Asimov, and probably a lot of the classics of this genre that I don't keep up with. Iirc he dislikes Kurt Vonnegut.
- At the moment The Book of The New Sun is his favorite series. However he did not enjoy the last book.
- He also reads a fair bit of philosophy, like Virginia Woolfe and Marcel Proust (He's in the middle of reading In Search of Lost Time, but told me he has to take a break from it due to the heftiness).
- Open to graphic novels or novels translated from non-English speaking countries.
Thank you so much for all help!! Even though he told me to surprise him with whatever book I pick, I feel lost. The last time I recommended a novel to him he compared it to YA (I recommended The Secret History, and he pointed out that this is like Brideshead Revisited but worse).
