Hello! Recently I read That Was Then, This Is Now by S.E. Hinton and I loved it. I read The Outsiders by the same author in middle school and it kickstarted my love for reading. Both are YA and focus on found family and coming of age in the 1970s. I don't usually read YA anymore but I loved the writing style and the small-town vibes. The character building is great and the relationships between characters are complex which may be a favorite part. I'd love to read something similar that applies a bit more to me.
I was born in the early 2000s and am currently in uni, and living with my best friend. If you know of any similarly written coming of age that takes place in uni and maybe also focuses on female-found family/sisterhood (I will also graciously accept saphic relationships) or friend group found family, please let me know. YA or adult is fine, anything with the vibes
