I’m a major Frankenstein freak. Read it probably 10 times. What I love about it is the heavy philosophy, literary gothic romance (intense emotion, themes of nature as a form of solace, “dark” settings), and the diction. I also enjoyed Jekyll and Hyde, but I need something with the same depth and soul as Frankenstein! I’m thinking about Dracula but wasn’t sure if it fits what I just described. It’s a long book and I hate reading 100 pages just to realize it’s not what I’m looking for. I want a heavy hitter!

*The Last Man* by Mary Shelley
You might like _Carmilla_. It’s a pre-_Dracula_ vampire novel that checks your boxes for gothic romance, philosophical weight, and soul. It’s also very short — 80 to 100 pages depending on the edition.
