Not a bad book, but a book series that for decades was considered unfilmable, and became a TV series only after major modifications: *Foundation* and its sequels by Isaac Asimov. The books are very episodic and span centuries, so characters come and go like historical figures, so continuity is thin. The Apple TV+ series is best treated as its own thing, separate from the books, with structural changes that give the story some continuity over the centuries. Some of it is quite ingenious and stands up very well e.g. the “genetic dynasty” concept.

Jaws is the classic example.

The Princess Bride by William Goldman. It’s my favorite movie but I didn’t like the book.

Honestly the netflix adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events is far more fun and charming than the books are ngl
