I LOVED The Historian. I was blown away by it.
I thought it was incredibly well written.
I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to writing and I want quite a bit more out of a book than just a very good story. The story doesn't have to grip me right away but I need to be impressed with the writing from the first page.
I'm looking for more books that are able to essentially teach you quite a lot of history along the way just like the historian did. And I have a lot of fascination with Eastern Europe and Russia, but also a slightly lesser amount in Scandinavian countries & Western Europe.
I loved the mood of the Historian… a gloomy, epic, slow burn mystery/thriller/horror.
I also particular loved all the elemwnts of occult & the scenery in it- old monasteries, lots of attention to detail in terma of old architecture & historical village life.
Thank you!

Have you read “The Empusium” by Olga Tokarczuk?
