So I'm looking for more stories like Hound of the Baskervilles (or for a movie analogy The Ghost and Mr. Chicken), that being, horror stories where what initially seems like something supernatural turns out to be completely mundane. I'm willing to accept a bit of "real" supernaturality in the story, for example Lovecraft's "The Alchemist" fits this bill for me since the "curse" is revealed to be something else. Thanks in advance

The “Carnaki the Ghost Finder” stories by William Hope Hodgson. In some of the stories the cause is supernatural, in others is it mundane. Finding out which is which is half the fun of the stories.
