I’m looking for a book, in English (whether it was written in English or translated, doesn’t matter), but the author is from a country other than the US.
I want to feel a rollercoaster of emotions. I want to never know what I’ll be feeling with the next chapter. I want to be wrecked emotionally by the end of it.
I enjoy most genres except YA and fantasy.
Thank you!
Edit: preferably written in the last 10 years or so.

**American War** by Omar Al Akkad is one of my fav books of all time. Akkad is a Canadian-Egyptian author and journalist, who writes a harrowing and heartbreaking cli-fi tale from the second American Civil War. He’s not American, and while the book is set in America, it’s meant to, in part, explain experiences of civilians (and especially children) in war-torn middle eastern countries that always seem to host proxy battles between superpowers.
