Ok so long story short I’ve been working on this little story brain nugget, ~~lovingly deemed spooky scary beach story~~ and I have (for the millionth time) restarted my plot outline. I’ve been looking over some structure outlines online… buuuut I realized most gothic horror/horror/spooky stuff I consume is in the form of visual media. I’ve only ever read a couple of spooky books and we all know that the key to being a good writer is being a good reader so… I need to get on it.
For reference, the kinds of spooky content I lean towards are: anything from the Flanagan universe, Bly Manor being my favorite and the initial inspiration for my own story (and I do definitely have Turn of the Screw on my list), the movies Oculus and The Good Nurse, The Watcher, things like Ghost Files (previously known as Buzzfeed Unsolved) etc.,. I’m sure there’s more, but nothing else comes to mind rn
Book wise, I usually am a contemporary, YA girlie.

Also, if you could try to suggest mostly well known/more popular books as I read via digital library cards and don’t have much money at all to use for buying books that would be great. Or, on the flip side, really indie books that I can get for cheap on Amazon lol.
