Lately, I’ve been into slice-of-life stories, particularly Japanese fiction (suggestions I’ve seen are mostly unavailable where I live). These have seemed to work quite well for me, but it doesn’t have to be Japanese fiction or slice-of-life.

I’m not looking for horror, romance (unless it’s very side story), anything sapphic, or fantasy and nothing with SA’s, please. It would be nice to see recs that aren’t often mentioned and that were perhaps more well known a few years ago.

Currently reading: How the Penguins Saved Veronica by Hazel Prior and enjoying it so far

Also trying The Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan but I find the storytelling a little jumpy

    Recent reads:
Convenience Store Woman (2/5), Remarkably Bright Creatures (2.5/5), The Swimmers (3.5/5), The Housekeeper and the Professor (3.5/5), Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (4/5), Ms. Ice Sandwich (2.5/5), Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop (3.5/5), Murderbot series (losing interest halfway in but maybe it will pick up).

I enjoyed I Am Mother with Hilari Swank. Yes, it’s a movie, but I’m wondering if there are books one might recommend after it. Not particularly looking for AI or robots. I enjoyed the psychological aspect and that it wasn’t so in your face and was simple.

The documentary Looking for Mike was also very intriguing. Dylan Reibling’s friend Mike dies, and this leads to him realizing that his friend was living under a false name, so he goes on a 12-year quest to find out who Mike really was.
