In the book no longer human by Osamu Dazai, we see a friend of Yozo’s named Horiki as he enters a college in Tokyo, and as we know, Yozo grows to be a womanizer, alcoholic, and an drug addict. But really if you think about it, this is all because that Horiki always took Yozo out for a drink until they somehow squander off their money. He also joins the communist party with Horiki, too. Is it just me, or is Horiki the bad guy here?

Hiroki is a bad person, but not the villain. This isn’t a story with a villain, just the story of someone who did not get the help they needed and spiraled into despair because he never knew how to find help.
