I read these a couple of years ago and they stayed with me. Part of me things SoT is a bit more lightweight, but now someone I know is reading the books and I'm watching the Station Eleven miniseries – and several years later I really think this universe Emily St John Mandel created is compelling. I find myself wishing I could read them again for the first time. One really cool thing I noticed is that Glass Hotel even references Sea of Tranquility (not the other way round) – chapter 6 begins with a discussion about Gaspery, with the plots of the two novels apparently overlapping
So I'm looking for recommendations of anything with a similar vibe – blurring the lines between genre and literary fiction, quite character driven but with a strong sense of self-propulsion, something these books have plenty of. If there are shared characters/references between the books even better. Only request is no David Mitchell – I've already read some of his work and didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much. Thanks!
