I just started university and I find myself having a lot of spare time. I haven't ever been properly into reading but have enjoyed a lot of great books in the past. I was hoping to look for some recommendations.

Here are some examples of some movies tv and video games that I love so you can get an idea of the sort of thing I might like.

    Video-games:
The Last of Us Part 1
    Red Dead Redemption 2
    Shadow of the Colossus
    Outer Wilds
    Elden Ring

    Movies:

    La La Land
    Good Will Hunting
    Star Wars Original Trilogy
    Interstellar
The Good The Bad and The Ugly

    TV:
    Walking Dead
    Game of Thrones
    Invincible
    True Detective

My favourite genres are western, sci-fi, mystery and fantasy, but I've gone out of these genres many times and been happy The kind of stories I'm interested in (and this is non-negotiable really) are always about character and their arcs and how they rise or fall.

You book guys do your thing I'd greatly appreciate it!

Hot Take: If you gotta a lot of free time, take a harder major.

All I will say is, I know lots of people in their 30’s regretting that they didn’t do more with college. They have degrees in history or english, marketing, or business, and they are deeply dissatisfied with their career prospects. They wish they had done a hard science, computer hardware, or software, accounting or gone into a medical field with established tracks.

You’re only cheating yourself if you’re not exploiting all you can with your time in college.

    2. Sacketts Land ,The Sackett family saga . From 1600’s England to 1800’s western. Louis l Amour . Riders Of The Purple Sage , Zane Gray. Snowcrash, Neal Stephenson. It’s in production at hbo so might be fun for a film student.Dennis Lehane , Mystic River and he has a nice detective series. Allen Dean Foster was the first author licensed to write Star Wars novels. Timothy Zahn’s Conqueror series is good.
