I was thinking of this the other day, but wanted to pose this question to the r/books hivemind.
Let's say someone wants to get into reading Classics(TM) but wants to read one a month and each month the classic novel increases in complexity. From January to December what books would you choose, and why?

I’d start with Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway.
Count of Monte Cristo is pretty easy to read, all in all
Catcher in the Rye is easy
Do you want include modern classics or things that are at least 100 years old ?
These aren’t “the twelve best books in existence,” but they are twelve classics in increasing order of complexity/length, approximately.
1. *The Little Prince*
1. *Animal Farm*
1. *Froth on the Daydream*
1. *The Great Gatsby*
1. *Brave New World*
1. *The Odyssey*
1. *Lolita*
1. *Journey to the End of the Night*
1. *The Adventures of Augie March*
1. *David Copperfield*
1. *War and Peace*
1. *In Search of Lost Time*
More recent classics like Hemingway, Steinbeck, Frankenstein, etc then transition to stuff like counte of Monte cristo, picture of Dorian gray, Les mis, and then finally the Russian classics so Tolstoy and Dostoevsky
