*Macbeth* is my go-to thought there, though I don’t know if you’re interested in Shakespeare. *Lolita* is about a man doing something horrible, knowing it is horrible, and rationalizing it to himself. *You* by Caroline Kepnes is within the mind of a stalker and is explosively readable. *The Stranger* is a book where the main character does something horrible and deals with the *external* consequences of that, while internally he is unbothered.
