    Hey,

I've been on a reading binge and all of the books I've been reading are dramatic historical fictions. Incredibly violent and dealing with all of the struggles of humanity. Slavery, God, colonization, death, torture. They've all been great books. Life of Pi, The Book of Negroes, Joseph Boyden's bird trilogy, and some Stephen King and James Bond.

I need to read something kind of happy, maybe fantasy. Has anyone reread Harry Potter as an adult and gotten more out of it?

If you’re looking for a newer book with Harry Potter vibes, I recommend [Nevermoor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/6a6d5ca1-b2f5-47be-828c-018144d3bbc7) by Jessica Townsend! It’s my favorite series even as an adult, and the only one that makes me feel the way the Harry Potter books used to.

Or if you’re open to very long books, I recommend [The Hands of the Emperor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/af2bba9c-8f41-4a3e-b87a-8532a44ccb67) by Victoria Goddard. It’s a beautifully written slice of life book about the personal secretary to the emperor of the world, with a heavy focus on platonic relationships.

    2. The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, Stardust by Neil Gaiman, Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, The Princess Bride by William Goldman.
