Need a book to read on working breaks.

I really like books about science fiction, fantasy, world ending scenarios, aliens etc.

My dad suggested me "The swarm" which i might get into but i wanted to ask here on this sub if there is a must read that perhaps is not 4k+ pages long but a nice story.

I am not into detective love affair drama or thriller so keep that out of the suggestion please!

It would also be nice if you tell me a bit about the plot of the book! 🙂
