I just finished “Dark Matter” by Blake Crouch, which was a really interesting concept though the writing and character development was mediocre.

I’m looking for my next science fiction read, preferably something written in the last two decades (not that older sci fi is inferior at all, some older books are my favorite reads, but just to have new recommendations).

Some of my favorite sci fi books include Hyperion, Dune, House of Suns, Children of Time, and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. I enjoyed Three Body Problem, Project Hail Mary, Contact, and Old Man’s War but wouldn’t consider them preeminent sci fi. Books I’ve read but didn’t love were: A Memory Called Empire, Ancillary Justice, and Consider Phlebas – mostly for issues with pacing, character development and just in general ability to root and feel invested in the MC.

Would you be okay with a series? I’m a fan of the Expanse by James S.A. Corey. Book 1 is Leviathan Wakes.
