Given what's happening these days, I’m seeking deeper insights into the discussions and decision-making processes surrounding high-stakes decisions in major armed conflicts.

While the focus doesn’t need to be solely on the Middle East, I’m interested in books that cover wars involving the U.S., whether from the American perspective or that of its adversaries.

And there a bunch of good ones involving ISIS. I think it’s called the dark tower? It really tells the history of extreme Islam and what led to this conflict.

I can really only offer books. I’ve read that are exclusively from the American perspective. I think you’re smart to look for accounts written by people on the other side.

My Share of the Task: A Memoir” General Stanley McChrystal

“Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War” Robert M. Gates

“The Generals: American Military Command from World War II to Today” Thomas E. Ricks

“What It Means to Be a Soldier” Lt. Gen. David Barno and N Bensahel

“War in a Time of Peace: Bush, Clinton, and the Generals” James Kitfield

“The Long War: A New History of U.S. National Security Policy since 9/11”

“Ghost Wars: The Secret History of the CIA, Afghanistan, and Bin Laden, from the Soviet Invasion to September 10, 2001”

I also liked all the books written by and about Colin Powell

Some of these are better reads than others, but all are very informative and interesting .
