I add thoughts (substantiative, but terse so as not to clutter the page) and references to previous reading that I feel ties in with the book.
but I’ve been watching booktoks and, while some annotated books are aesthetically pleasing, some also looks cluttered to where idk how they could reread the book. Also saw some with people doing doodles ( flowers, vines, hearts, etc.). I can’t see how that serves a purpose (again just beyond making a book pretty).
not to sound elitist or anything, but my question is, how do you discern between useful vs. frivolous annotating?
