Hello everyone! I would like to know if you have suggestions for me with books that take place in Italy (Florence-Pisa-Venice and the areas around) during 1000-1800 roughly. Context: I recently travelled there and loved the area, plus I study art conservation and everything art/architecture or daily life/aristocracy related, feel so close to me. I know Umberto Eco has written some but I'm not as skilled reader to understand him… i've tried, but its a no!

Anything you suggest (fiction, historical mix w/ fiction, historical mix w/ science) is appreciated and will try to find if there is a greek translation of it!

    Thanks a lot wonderful ppl!

    1. Gabriele D’Annunzio’s “Il piacere” and “Il Fuoco” are set in Rome and Venice respectively, around 1800. They are novel focused around art and aesthetism, similar to Oscar Wilde in some aspects. I think you’d like them as the city and its buildings play a big part in both novels, especially the first one.

I’m Italian and I have read them in Italian and I can say that the language is not that easy and they are not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think a good translation could do them justice.
