I want to get my best friend (16) a book about career choices.

She is a wonderful student with good grades. I was talking to her about the future and asked her about what she thought she would do in the future.

She said that she didn’t know and that she wasn’t even sure if she wanted to go to college. I’m not her parent. She can do whatever she wants. However, I asked her about what she was planning on doing instead, and she said that she had no clue. I think that if you want to skip college, you should probably have a plan. I want to help her. I have made a Google Document with her interests and majors/career paths that I think she would like, already. I’m not doing this because I feel obligated to. I’m just bored, and this stuff is fun to research for me. Again, she can do whatever the hell she wants. I just want to help her because I care (I’m also bored and procrastinating about the things in my life).

I was ordering her father a fiction book that I think he’d really like. That’s kind of why I’m looking for a book for my friend. Certain items on Amazon can have free shipping if the total is more than $25, so I’m taking advantage of this.

Not going to lie, she gives me major librarian vibes. I don’t know why.

    TLDR:

Is there a book that helps highschoolers decide on what they want to do career-wise?

“What Color is Your Parachute?” is a book that’s famous for helping people change careers. I see on Amazon that there is a “What Color is Your Parachute for Teens” that helps teens explore college majors and change careers. The author is Carol Christen.

She might also want to check our the US Dept of Labor’s O*NET site.https://www.onetonline.org/ She can search for jobs by her interests, abilities, how much education they require, industry, as well as how many openings they are projected to have. I think there’s info about pay, too.

She might take the ASVAB aptitude in high school, which will give her some suggestions.

If she goes to college, her career center might let her take the Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers Briggs Type Indicator.
