Recently got into reading this year, have read a few other genres and now want to try a fantasy, but the big series seem intimidating.
I think I would be more into vampires, witches and magic than fairies and dragons but open anything!
Little smut is appreciated!

*The Spear Cuts Through Water* by Simon Jimenez. Check the CWs, though.
Middlegame by Seanan McGuire. It’s technically part of a series but all of the books are standalones and center different characters.
Sunshine by Robin McKinley.
Ghost Talkers by Mary Robinette Kowal is a historical fantasy, so not probably what you’re picturing but it’s a less intimidating adventure into the genre. It’s an alternate history WW1 where the military gets intel from soldiers who die, and the main character is one of the people who speaks to ghosts.

Madeline Miller’s books are standalone fantasies based on Greek mythology. Warning: they are very sad.
