I’ve noticed a trend in what I like, but I can’t put my finger on what exactly it is or how to search for books that fit within “it”.
One of my favorite authors is Jonathan Franzen – specifically “Crossroads”, I absolutely love the TV show “The Bear” and Matt Maeson is a Top-5 musical artist for me.
Somewhere in my brain these artists/works have a lot in common. The best way I know to conceptualize it would be:
gritty, but not grimy
real, but not dramatic
raw, but not shocking
honest, but not exaggerated
hopeful, but not saccharine
I’m open to other descriptors as well – for anyone who also likes these things.
But mostly I’m looking for suggestions of books that would mesh well with these preferences.
