Is there a way to search for books and make sure they have footnotes? Second question- are annotations the same as footnotes? I like to read old classics that have footnotes because the added explanations really help. I’ve read Dracula, Emma, Wuthering Heights and Treasure Island and all of them were way better with footnotes. When I go to a book shop I can look through to see if there are footnotes. Do internet sites like Amazon or Thriftbooks tell you if certain copies have footnotes?

**r/books would be a really good place for this question!**
Yes, annotated editions have footnotes. They can have other things like maps and illustrations as well.
Some go really in depth. For just kind of general appeal, the Norton Critical Editions can be good. They have essays as well as annotations, but it’s not overwhelming (in my opinion!). I found a preview of one here: https://read.amazon.in/sample/B07VRVSHLS?f=1&l=en_IN&r=b3a32115&rid=NMJASGAASC2AW46MMV4D&sid=258-6471281-9895624&ref_=litb_m
If you know the publisher of the books you read, you can look them up to see if they have other annotated books. There are lists on Goodreads and Amazon of annotated novels.
If it has annotated in the title, it will have the footnotes. Sometimes you can read a preview like what I linked above, or there might be an image or a review with an image.
Check out Norton Critical Editions, if they’re still around.
