Hey so I’ve been trying to get into reading for 4 years now and I’m having trouble finding books I like.

A lot of books I’ve read so far has been a boring slog that I had to force myself to finish, some are just boring. I play a lot of games and read some manga, and I have no problem getting hooked on those stories, so I’ve been trying to find books with similar stories or worlds but without much luck. I’m kind of at the end of my wits here trying to find books I might like so I’m asking if anyone has any good recommendations based on what I’ve read and or what kind of manga/videogames I like.

Books

I’m glad my mom died 5/5: Great book, really connected with the character and her story, but this is a biography so it’s hard to get “similar” books

Flowers for Algernon 4/5: Really good book, very fun to read and interesting message as well

Tales from Earthsea 3/5: Liked the world, didn’t really like the character even though it’s kind of a hero’s journey and even though the worldbuilding is great I just couldn’t get into the characters

I am legend 4/5: Good book, great read, a bit slow in the beginning but once it racked up the pace it was a fun read and the character development the MC makes where great to follow

Animal farm 4/5: Another good book, even though the “bigger war analogies” went over my head it was a nice read

The alchemist 3/5: I really loved this book in the beginning, but just hated the message and the end. If it were less philosophical towards the end, I would probably have rated it higher, it just felt like a cheap ending.

The Road 1/5: Yeah… the prose, I couldn’t overcome it, it had some segments where it was great and I get the overall story, but for a book that took 2 years just because it was too hard for me to read it wasn’t fun. Really wished I could understand this book.

Kallocain 1/5: Last two chapters were  good, but everything up to that point were so slow and very predictable

Lord of the flies 1/5: Another boring book that took almost 6 months to finish, it was just boring, I didn’t like the characters, so I had a really hard time to keep reading this book
