I am especially looking for books that collect multiple legends, the stories of Camelot, Héloïse and Abelard, Tristan and Isolde, the Nibelungs, Guigemar…. And more legends I have yet to know from especially the region of UK, France and Germany.
If there is not one book encompassing all, I am still looking forward to recommendations of multiple books who cover parts!
I guess my primary goal is first to see what’s all out there, a starting point.

    1. A few mythology/folklore/legends books in my collection that I can recommend are:
      Lady Gregory’s Complete Irish Mythology
The Wordsworth Collection of Irish Ghost Stories
Best Loved Folktales of the World by Joanna Cole
The Story of the Champions of the Round Table by Howard Pyle
Warriors of Arthur by John Matthews and Bob Stewart

I also know of Le Mort D’Artur

I won’t claim these are the best on the topic, but they are some that I am at least familiar with to some degree

I tend to lean toward stuff from.the British Isles, so other than the world folktales one, I don’t have an real recommendations for France and Germany

    2. *Krabat & the Sorcerer’s Mill* by Otfried Preußler

It’s a Sorbian legend (a minority culture in Germany). It is not a nonfiction book *about* the legend but a novelisation of the traditional story (close to the historical context, not a modernised take). If you also take those, I think you’ll like it.
