Hello,
Avid reader here. To help keep my reading diverse I like to do seasonal reads. So every year I devote the month of October to horror/ spooky books. I haven’t been doing this long so I’m still pretty new to the genre. I love Dracula and Frankenstein and reread them every year. Last year I read a ton by Jonathan Mayberry and loved his work because most of it was actually so plausible. But I do love fantasy as well. So please share your horror/spooky season reads.
Two caveats: I am blind so no graphic novels please! Also not huge on romance. It’s fine if it’s a subplot, but if the main theme is romance, I’m probably not going to enjoy no matter how many monsters intervene.
TIA for your suggestions!

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan. It’s technically YA but a very mature YA.
The Hollow Places by T Kingfisher (or any of her other horror books, but that one is my personal favorite!).
I’d also recommend Slewfoot by Brom. Slewfoot does include a few illustrations the author made, but they aren’t part of the story and are just included as bonuses for those who might enjoy them.
