Wait, are you looking for Fantasy and Romance as separate categories or are you looking for a mix of the two?

The hundred thousand kingdoms by NK Jemison.

I read the book about 13 years ago as a standalone, but it’s possible that there are more books that follow it as a series, but I am unsure.

I believe this was the authors debut full marvel, and I have read other novels by her and they are all very good, but she has developed as a writer since her early days so if you’re familiar with her contemporary work, this one might seem a little rougher, but that’s not always a bad thing.

The bird and the sword by Amy Harmon! Awesome characters and character growth, wonderful romance, cool world building.

    4. The Five Hundred Kingdoms series by Mercedes Lackey. Quite heavy on the romance but overall fun fantasy with meta commentary on fairy tale and folklore tropes. The first book “The Fairy Godmother” discusses what happens when Cinderella doesn’t meet her Prince.
