I apologize in advance to any Jane Austen fans out there, but I recently started reading Pride and Prejudice, and I’m seven chapters in—honestly, I’m struggling to keep going. The book feels really off-putting and, to be blunt, boring. What’s the point of all these endless discussions? Who even talks like this in real life? It just doesn’t feel relatable or realistic at all.
On top of that, is it just me, or does the whole setting feel incredibly sexist? I get that it’s a product of its time, but the way women are portrayed and valued is unsettling. It feels like there’s a lot of objectification, and I’m having a hard time seeing how this is considered a love story. I understand I haven’t gotten far into the book, but so far, it’s been pretty nauseating. Does anyone else feel the same?
