I’m new to reading. I’ve read The Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings. I’m currently reading the second book of the game of thrones series A Song of Ice and Fire. Love it. I’ve also read the occasional James Patterson book here and there cause I love his story telling, but I think I really love adventure fantasy. Kings, queens, dragons, magic, elves, etc.

Obviously LOTR and AGOT are elite fantasy books, and I’ve found it difficult to find books in the same genre that aren’t made into a cheesy love story about a girl who loves two guys.

I’m looking for suggestions for books that are up to Tolkien and Martin standards that isn’t cheesy lol I know it’s a tall order but I’m hoping this thread can help!! Thank you!

My suggestion for yall is a weird one. James Patterson You’ve Been Warned. It’s different from his typical crime thriller, and has a splash of paranormal. It was the first “adult” book I ever read and love it to this day.

    1. Read the Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson. I firmly believe it will eventually be considered one of the must read fantasy series. The world is so cool and unique, the characters are great. It doesn’t have the same level of rich lore as LOTR or the web of intrigue/excellent dialogue of ASOIAF, but man the action sequences are awesome and Sanderson is great at writing cliffhangers and plot twists.

    2. I will always suggest Dungeon Crawler Carl. Weirdest and funniest books I have ever read. Currently on reread number 3 and I first read them at the beginning of August. Completely not the genre I was used to. I was /am a thriller and espionage junkie. But I put down those and have been quite addicted to these.
