So I’m currently overcoming addictions to alcohol and vaping. Five days ago I finished my taper down from a twelve pack every night, and on Friday my taper from vaping will be done. I feel absolutely dreadful by the end of the day, and this weekend into next week will be much tougher. I’m not much of a reader, but I do have a kindle and need to be doing things far less stimulating than watching tv or playing video games so I can keep cravings lower and get all the sleep I can. Obviously I won’t have much of an attention span either and I’d like to escape reality too

I’m not looking for anything therapeutic, anything self-help or anecdotal. I’d really like a fictional fantasy world to get into that really is wayyy more about setting and characters than story. The simpler the story the better, and I hope to find one that is also packed with little nuggets of symbolism and wisdom in the dialogue. Something I can read two pages at a time if I need to and still get the whole experience. Something very digestible but still attempts to teach a lot about life as I stumble through the next few weeks feeling like a lost little alien. Hopefully not directed towards kids but rather adults who need a home away from home for a little while if you know what I mean. Thanks

These are simple, slice-of-life fiction, not overly long. I really enjoyed both. With Sweet Bean Paste in particular, I would try to avoid spoilers so you don’t figure out beforehand what happens, if possible.
