It’s a little masochistic but I’ve always been into books that devastate me emotionally. As a young child I was obsessed with Jacqueline Wilson and Cathy Cassidy and as I became a young adult I loved books like all the bright places, the perks of being a wallflower, the bell jar, speak and winter girls. The themes I enjoy never really changed, except, I’m now 27 and I read adult fiction.

I’ve just read My Dark Vanessa and ready within 2 days and got the reading bug once again. I couldn’t stop reading. Before that, I read the memoir, “I’m glad my mom died” and couldn’t put it down. Other books that I read recently are; forgive me, Leonard Peacock and Prozac Nation.

So I’m looking for book suggestions in that kind of vein. Emotional reads that revolve around serious real life issues. Having dealt with many of the issues myself, I find books based on issues of mental illness, abuse, substance issues and trauma comforting in a weird way. So if anyone could suggest something, I’d appreciate it.

(No Colleen Hoover suggestions please, I’m not a fan)
