Post Apocalyptic books where a community settles in a school or other atypical locations!
I looooved The Girl Who Owned a City by O.T. Nelson as a kid and I really loved when the group settled at the prison in The Walking Dead! I’ll also take any apocalypse/post-apocalypse books or series recommendations people have.
I’m really curious to see what other people recommend bc I also loved the prison arc! My two recs are:
“Moon of the Crusted Snow” by Waubgeshig Rice. Short novel about a rural indigenous community in Northern Ontario, and how they adapt and survive when the apocalypse begins (wide-spread power & communications blackout). I thought this one had a fresh setting that you don’t often see explored in apocalyptic media.
“This Is Not a Test” by Courtney Summers is a YA zombie apocalypse story. The survivors take shelter at a high school for the vast majority of the book. It’s just a small group of students though, not a community. The main character is a teenage girl dealing with trauma so her mental health is a pretty big theme also 🙂
