I recently read Bad Blood about Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos and was honestly shocked and amazed at how close she was to almost pulling off her dangerous failed prototype.
She essentially had a faulty machine that gave inaccurate reading on blood samples. These “bad” reading would then be used by doctors to prescribe medicines, that may or may not be needed. She got so far as to get Walgreens involved in her scam to try and mass produce these machines.
I would love more books that cover potentially serious topics that affect the overall general population.

The dangerous world of butterflies by Peter Laufer
I haven’t read it yet but I’ve heard that *Empire of Pain* by Patrick Radden Keefe is really good.
From Wikipedia:
>The book examines the history of the Sackler family, including the founding of Purdue Pharma, its role in the marketing of pharmaceuticals, and the family’s central role in the opioid epidemic.
