So, I'll just jump right in. My favorite series is probably the Demon Cycle by Peter V Brett. Second place goes to the Cal Leandros series by Rob Thurman.

Just from these, and the fact that I also read The Hollows books by Kim Harrison and enjoyed them enough to read all 13 of those (yes, I know there are more, idk if I want to read them though. Seemed to end on a solid note) I tend to gravitate more towards high fantasy and urban fantasy.

Most recently I've tried reading the Hickory Staff by Robert Scott & Jay Gordon. Didn't care for it much. A long book where not much really happens.

Same for Blood Song. I read all 3 books in hopes it would get better. On paper it's got things I like; but everything felt so… aimless. There wasn't much of a driving force other than the "nameless enemy", and I felt like characters all just did their own things that just happened to intersect with the main plot at times. It all felt oddly coincidental.

As far as other books I've liked to potentially help with recs, in no particular order:

Archived series by Victoria Schwab (didn't care for her other series though)

Sandersons Mistborn, Elantris, Warbreaker (I'd read Way of Kings, but his shelf at the library is chronically empty)

Powder Mage Trilogy by Brian McClellan

Also, I will say I'm not opposed to sci-fi recs, though I haven't read enough to have a baseline of what I like/am looking for in that regard.
