Man’s search for meaning – Viktor Frankl. It’s a short, quick read. Definitely worth your time (male or female).

If you like fantasy (or even if you don’t usually but are willing to give it a try), I would suggest Ursula K LeGuin’s *Earthsea* 6-book series. Le Guin wrote the first 3 books when she was younger and the latter 3 when she was older, and they follow a few characters throughout their lives. I’m in my 50’s now, and I am very powerfully struck by the reflections on wisdom and aging.
On top of that, it’s just a beautiful, beautiful literary series. I’ve been rereading them every few years since my early 30’s, and I never grow bored. I’m always finding new beauty and insight there.

Finding Ultra – Rich Roll. Don’t let the overall theme of the book (sport) put you off it’s it’s not what you’re into. Really a great book about realizing what’s important later in life.

Stephen King has a story collection called If it Bleeds. There is a story in it called The Life of Chuck. That one might be pretty applicable.
