I like non-fiction books on macabre subjects or societal issues, kind of a gritty under belly type vibe. I like my true crime to reflect on society as a whole and not just a bio on the killer. I like my historical books and societal commentaries to focus on inequality and large societal issues but also add personal touches. Does anyone else like these kind of books and want to give me some suggestions?
In the true crime vein I like:
Green River, Running Red by Ann Rule
On the Farm by Stevie Cameron
Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe
Beyond Cruel by Stephen G. Michaud
Honour by Caroline Goode
The Family Next Door by John Glatt
Books on social issues I like:
The Broken Ladder by Keith Payne
Evicted by Matthew Desmond
There are no Children Here by Alex Kotlowitz
American Whitelash by Wesley Lowery
Educated by Tara Westover
Historical books I like:
Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer
Africa is Not a Country by Dipo Faloyin
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs
Freedom on Trial by Scott Farris
Nothing to Envy by Barbara Demick
