At least two times a year I try and find this book and only once have I been successful, sadly I took a print screen that has since disappeared one way or another.

I can’t remember either the the author or the title (I was sure the title had “gold” in it but that is not helping my search so I’m not so sure anymore).

It’s an historical romance, might be part of a series in a sort of family saga but I’ve only read one book so I’m not sure. The book must’ve been published between late 1970 and 1995 I think.

Plot is something like this (sorry in advance):

Time is set around 1840-1900 Sea captain/trader person meet young woman on her fathers ship/estate, he wows her with promises of a great future in California (San Francisco?), she travels to said city. Their marriage doesn’t quite turn out how they both want. He trades with stuff from Asia (I think he falls in love with a girl from Asia) there are mentions about opium dens and Chinatown (I think there is some POV from this girl). And there is a great fire in the trading companies warehouses and the entire city.

So sorry this is a mess, I just really want to find the book.

(The cover is if I remember kind of 80ish.
