To clarify! I love a strong female protagonist but so often I feel like they have been falling into the trope of super stoic, calculating, really intelligent, seems smarter than most everyone or is just very aware of what to do in most situations etc. This kind of character is great but I often think of how I’d handle a lot of these situations and would just fumble my through way in an extraordinarily dumb manner lol
And I don’t just mean the super naive sheltered protagonist that had to have the male lead or someone else swoop in and save her from peril. I just want a girl who Girl Maths and Girls Fails her way through stuff in her own way and it’s okay if she isn’t the smartest or best because she still gets stuff done.
An example of a character I think fits this a bit is Halla from Swordheart by T Kingfisher. She rambles and is a little clueless but still takes heart to try and save herself and do her best and is so goofy and silly as she does. I haven’t finished the book yet but right from the get go I really appreciated how she was passionate and strong willed without being super badass or confident or knowledgeable but still rolled with the punches.
