I’d like to read something where the protagonist is pulled into something that they aren’t prepared for. Midsommar comes to mind, the way the visitors have no idea they’re surrounded by cultists. The book doesn’t have to involve cults or anything, though; I’d just like to read about someone losing themselves, their sanity, their sense of objectivity, etc. because of something the reader similarly doesn’t understand until the damage has already been done.
