I'm looking for book ideas to gift my brother, who has never been a 'reader.'

He'd like to read more, but struggles to get into books. I'd like to give him a few magical selections that helps him re/discover the joy of reading.

Educated, hard-working guy. I suspect he chooses books that are too hard, and may need to explore other genres.

    TIA!

    1. Lots of options. I’m in my 40s and here are some things I’ve enjoyed lately.

James is a new book that is the Huck Finn story told from the perspective of Jim. Short, accessible, entertaining and educational. Highly recommended.

Demon Copperhead is another retelling of a classic. It’s David Copperfield about a boy in west Virginia in the 90s during the opioid crisis. Excellent book.

Hemingway is great. For Whom the Bell Tolls is about the Spanish Civil war. Great writing. Exciting book.

Changing pace a bit, the Slow Horses series is a lot of fun. I watched the show and read the books. I loved both.

For slower espionage, try Le Carre. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is a classic of the genre. For something shorter, try the Spy Who Came In From the Cold

My go to book rec for people who want to get into reading is Holes by Louis Sachar, because it appeals to all ages, has really short chapters, and is super engaging!

    3. Depends on what kind of genre he is interested into, is he more into sci fi, fantasy, historical, thriller, litterature?

For example, what kind of movies / tv show he seems to enjoy more?

    4. Lee Childs – Jack Reacher books are great for simple, no fuss, entertaining thriller. Dean Koontz can be the same for Horror.

Ready Player One is great for that age bracket, generates nostalgia, is easy to read, and is engaging with good visual components.
