I'm looking for books, especially horror, where ancient elements of a religion turn out to be real (even if it's not in the traditional sense). Especially if there's an exploration or archaeology aspect to it – unlocking a tomb and finding demons, finding Noah's Ark and there are demons, vampires passing themselves off as Christian angels, etc. NOT really looking for possession fiction.
It could also be any religion, although I've mostly seen xtian examples.
I realize this is an amorphous ask, so suggest broadly!
I want:
*Midnight Mass, but in book form
*Ararat by Christopher Golden, but good
*Something that scared me the way
Cooper Kids did when I was a young evangelical
*Something like the last third of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, but scarrier
Note: by 'non-religious', I basically mean 'not published by Thomas Nelson or intended to be inapirational'. Religious themes are A-OK.
Thank you!!
